The Basketball Arbitral Tribunal (BAT) registers the 200th POP case!
In early June 2026 - just over two years after the introduction of the so-called Payment Order Procedure (POP) at the Basketball Arbitral Tribunal (BAT) in 2024 - the 200th POP case had already been filed.
This high number of cases in such a short time confirms the need for and broad acceptance of the new POP system within the basketball community, which offers an even faster and more cost-effective alternative to regular arbitration proceedings at the BAT for disputes involving small amounts in dispute. Indeed, the total duration of proceedings in the POP cases to date has averaged only about 30 days.

Martens in cooperation with the German NOC and Team Germany at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games
Martens Lawyers acted as the sports law firm of choice for the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) and Team Germany (Team D) during the 2026 Winter Olympic Games (MiCo2026).
Throughout the entire duration of the Games, our partners Dr. Paul Fischer and David Menz were available for round-the-clock legal support on extremely short notice. Their mandate particularly covered eligibility matters and strategic advice as well as potential representation in proceedings before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) Ad-Hoc Division.
The continuous 24/7 availability over the full 16 days of competition ensured immediate and highly specialised legal assistance should critical legal matters arise during the Olympic Games.
We sincerely thank the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) and Dr. Olaf Tabor for their trust.
We warmly congratulate Team D on its numerous – legally undisputed – medal achievements, reflecting both outstanding athletic excellence and technical perfection.
