In early June 2026 – just over two years after the introduction of the so-called Payment Order Procedure (POP) at the Basketball Arbitral Tribunal (BAT) in 2024 – the 200th POP case had already been filed.
This high number of cases in such a short time confirms the need for and broad acceptance of the new POP system within the basketball community, which offers an even faster and more cost-effective alternative to regular arbitration proceedings at the BAT for disputes involving small amounts in dispute. Indeed, the total duration of proceedings in the POP cases to date has averaged only about 30 days.
